Blake Lively wants designers to make clothes for all body types, including bodies that have just given birth.

While sharing some throwback photos of herself to her Instagram Stories, Lively opened up about feeling “insecure” after the birth of her third child, Betty.

The actress shared a photo of her appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in 2020.

Lively explained that she paired a Lanvin shirt with a dress from Net-a-Porter to make the outfit.

“Because no one had samples that fit me after giving birth. And so many clothes from stores didn’t fit either. So. Many.”

While Lively is originally referencing the struggle to find designer clothing in sample sizes, we completely understand where she’s coming from.

Each time you give birth, your body changes in remarkable ways. Pregnancy and childbirth are miracles—but it can be difficult for a new mom to recognize herself in her ‘new’ body.

“It doesn’t send a great message to women when their bodies don’t fit into what brands have to offer. It’s alienating and confusing,” she continued.

“And I wish I felt as confident then as I do now, a year later looking back. That body gave me a baby. And was producing that baby’s entire food supply. What a beautiful miracle. But instead of feeling proud, I felt insecure. Simply because I didn’t fit into clothes. How silly is that in retrospect.”

We think most moms will recognize themselves in Lively’s words. Pregnancy is a miracle. Nourishing that baby is a miracle. But sometimes it can be hard to appreciate all that your body has done, especially when you’re struggling to find something to wear that makes you feel confident.

Lively also tagged Katie Sturino, an entrepreneur and body acceptance advocate, for “helping women to not feel alone.”

Lively married actor Ryan Reynolds in 2012. They have three daughters: James, 6, Inez, 4, and Betty, 1.

We think Lively has the right idea when it comes to demanding more from our favorite designers. They should offer more sizes and options. It’s about inclusion and respect for all body types.
