"The Bench" is about the special relationship between fathers and sons. It comes out just in time for Father's Day!
Meghan Markle is many things: The Duchess of Sussex. A wife and mother. A feminist and activist. And now, a children's book author.
Meghan, who is currently expecting her second child, has written her first children's book. "The Bench" is about the special relationship between a father and son—as seen from a mother's perspective. The story was inspired by Markle's husband, Prince Harry, and his bond with their son, Archie.
"The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father's Day, the month after Archie was born," Meghan said in a press release.
"That poem became this story. Christian [Robinson] layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens. My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine."
If you're wondering, Markle plans to narrate the audiobook. We can't wait to hear this story, especially in her voice.
"The Bench" is illustrated by Christian Robinson. Robinson has earned a Caldecott Honor and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor for his art in "Last Stop on Market Street." Robinson has also worked with the Sesame Street Workshop and Pixar Animation Studios.
"The Bench" comes out June 8th, just in time for Father's Day. You can preorder it now below!
