Moms across the country are throwing out their babies’ beloved loveys, not because they want to, but because the stuffed animals are being recalled due to a potential choking hazard.

The line of plush toys marketed as Dr. Brown’s Lovey Pacifier & Teether Holders come with a silicone pacifier which can be secured to the toy by an attached ribbon and snap. Other pacifier or teething toys can also be attached.

“The ribbons that attach the plush toy to the teether or pacifier can fray and/or unravel after repeated use and create a potential choking hazard,” the company warns in a statement posted to social media, noting that the silicone pacifiers sold with the loveys are not impacted by the recall.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has received 67 reports of frayed ribbons with an additional two cases being reported in Canada. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

The loveys being recalled include giraffes, zebras, turtles, reindeer, frogs, deer and two styles of bunny. They were sold through Bed Bath & Beyond, H-E-B Grocery, K-Mart, Target, Toys “R” Us, Babies “R” Us, Walmart, Amazon and other retailers from August 2015 until this month for about $10.

About 590,000 were sold in the United States, with an additional 10,500 sold in Canada.

The recall is limited to certain lot codes, so if you’ve got a lovey, check the tag to see if it’s impacted. The following lots are: RICH0615, RICH0715, RICH0815, RICH1215, RICH0516, RICH0616, RICH0716; RICH1116, RICH1016, RICH0916, RICH1216, RICH0317, RICH0417, RICH0517, RICH0617, RICH0717, RICH0817, RICH0917.

If your child’s lovey is among the lots, stop using it and contact Dr. Brown’s parent company, Handi-Craft, to receive a replacement lovey or other select Dr. Brown’s merchandise of equal or lesser value.
