It’s conflicting. The excitement of bringing a new little bundle of joy into this world mingles with the dread of giving up so much during your pregnancy. Sure, you may sacrifice that mimosa with your Sunday brunch (and maybe even the espresso for dessert ), but that doesn’t mean you can’t splurge during pregnancy. You are making a human being from scratch, after all.

These 12 splurges will keep you healthy and happy when the responsibilities of pregnancy start to weigh on you.

1. Flat shoes

I don’t care what industry you are in. From CEO to fashion consultant, feel free to put down the high heels and back away slowly. When even your favorite Manolos start to hassle your sciatic nerve , it is okay to opt for a charmingly comfy pair of flats!

Ahhh….this whole pregnancy thing might not be so bad, after all…

2. Maternity clothes

I know, I know. You will only wear them for nine months. But really, how long do you usually wear clothes before moving on to something new, anyway? Plus, plenty of maternity clothes (and jammies) can also be used for nursing, too!

Justify a few new comfortable and eye-catching outfits by knowing that you will use them long after baby is born. You will love your growing belly even more when you feel and look your best. And that priceless boost of self-confidence may be all you need to get through the back pain, restless nights and 17 daily trips to the restroom.

3. Scrumptious salads

I’m not talking about kale and carrots with fat-free dressing on the side. I am talking about spinach, walnuts, almonds, dried cranberries, green apples, parmesan, any of your other go-to veggies and your favorite dressing.

Baby needs the nutrients and healthy fats found in these foods and, together, they make one heck of a tasty salad. A little fat in your salad will help you absorb more nutrients from the vegetables, anyway!

This is one splurge you definitely should not feel guilty about!

Need some inspiration? These 11 salads so tasty you’ll forget they’re healthy, too .

4. Sleep, sleep and more sleep

Sure, it may not be what it once was now that you have to sleep with a belly the size of a basketball every night . Whether it is on your side or… your other side, sleep is still sleep. Stock up now before your nights no longer belong to you. Enjoy lazy Saturdays and feel free to go to bed at 8 pm when you can’t keep your eyes open any longer.

5. Flavored fruit water

During pregnancy, you will need to drink even more water than usual . Somewhere in the realm of 12 to 13 cups every day. Keep yourself motivated by squeezing a bit of flavor in, too! Try adding a little fresh lemon, lime or grapefruit juice to your water.

In addition to the zesty taste, the vitamins from the fruit will be a welcome addition to your daily diet.

6. Prenatal massage

Speaking of that annoying sciatic nerve, one of the most enjoyable pregnancy splurges is a prenatal massage. Just make sure to choose a spa with a pregnancy massage table, and therapists who are certified in prenatal massage.

Enjoy while you can, because it may be a while before you have the time to enjoy 60 minutes to yourself once baby arrives. Did I say 60 minutes? Better make it 90.

7. Mocktails

Looking for a tasty alternative to your former favorite libation? Try mixing up a faux version of your signature drink . You can even give the recipe a healthy spin if you are trying to squeeze in a few extra vitamins for the day.

I call my favorite mocktail a “dark and not-so-stormy.” Combine lime juice, a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses, ginger beer and candied or fresh ginger for a refreshing boost. The limes are full of vitamin C and the molasses is a superfood, packed with iron, calcium, and potassium. Plus, the ginger is a tummy soother for that pesky morning sickness .

8. A sexy bra

It won’t be long into your pregnancy before you find yourself in need of a new bra or two. (Bonus points if they double as nursing bras.)

Regardless of your pre-baby bust size, be proud of your new curves up top. Look and feel your best with a bra that will make you do a double take the next time you look in the mirror.

You are gorgeous. Flaunt it.

9. Pedi pampering

When you can’t reach your toes anymore and just want to get off your feet, opt for a pedicure. Better yet, remind your partner that you are housing their unborn babe and cash in your chips for a foot rub.

Have your partner massage up the leg to decrease swelling in your feet. If you are brave, have your partner paint your tootsies, too. (You won’t be able to see their handiwork, anyway!)

10. A soothing stroll

Go for a relaxing walk whenever you have the chance. Walking is one of the best (and safest) physical activities for you and baby during pregnancy.

If you start to feel down about your new mama bod, physical activity can improve your mood through endorphins and can give you a boost in self-esteem when you can no longer see your poor puffy ankles. And remember, once baby arrives, you will understand what those newfound curves did—help create the most precious love of your life.

Pro tip : If your body is ready for baby, walking at the end of your pregnancy may help to induce labor . If you are desperate to get baby moving, get moving yourself!

11. A helping hand

It’s true what they say. It really does take two, baby! Before you clean your cat’s litter box , lift anything outside your comfort zone or decide to paint baby’s nursery, just remember… your body is already doing so much.

Take any opportunity you can to enlist the help of family, friends or your partner.

12. Dark chocolate

You may not be able to pair it with a red wine or your favorite soft cheese, but trust me, dark chocolate can hold its own! A few pieces here and there can boost your brain’s serotonin , leaving you in a better mood.

Plus, dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants and may even reduce high blood pressure. An ounce a day is the recommended serving for offering just enough of the good stuff, without too much caffeine.

You may forego many of your favorite things during pregnancy, but none of it will compare to the amount of love you feel for your unborn babe as soon as you see those two little pink lines. Here are some of our favorite indulgent products to help you enjoy your pregnancy to the fullest.
