Pete Davidson is usually showing his funny side, but the comedian got serious during an appearance on Kevin Hart’s Peacock series Hart to Heart (via ‘People‘), when asked if getting married and having kids is a “priority now.”

“Since my dad died, I was like, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to have a kid,'” he said, admitting that he once felt like fatherhood might not be his path. 

“I don’t like saying corny s—, the reasoning was like, I don’t want a kid to ever feel like how I feel right now,” he continued. “It wasn’t his fault; he passed away. But just to be there so that someone doesn’t have to feel like that.”

Davidson’s dad was a firefighter who passed away during 9/11, when the actor was just seven years old. Now he’d like to have children of his own so they can experience life with a father. “I’m very excited to do that for someone and watch them have what I didn’t,” he said.

The 28-year-old spoke more about looking forward to a new “chapter” in his life elsewhere in the interview. “My favorite thing ever, which I have yet to achieve, I wanna have a kid. That’s like my dream. It’s like, super corny,” Davidson confessed.

“That’s not super corny – that’s the best goddamn thing you could do in life,” Hart, who’s a father of four, responded.

“It would be so fun. Dress up the little dude,” Davidson continued. “That’s kind of what I’m just preparing for now, is just trying to be as good as a dude, develop and get better so when that happens it’s just easier.”

As far as getting married, the “Saturday Night Live” alum says that’s “100 percent” connected to his desire to have children. “That’s the way I hope it goes, you know?” he said.

Davidson was famously engaged to Ariana Grande in June 2018, but just a few months later the whirlwind romance died. In the years that followed, he was connected to a number of women, but it appears that he’s finally found something that could last. Davidson has been dating Kim Kardashian for nearly a year (they first sparked dating speculation in October 2021, eight months after she divorced Kanye West). Last month, the reality star opened up to “TODAY” about the time frame she gave before introducing her beau to her four kids: North, 9; Saint, 6; Chicago, 4; and Psalm, 3.

“I definitely wanted to wait six months and that was the marker. It’s different for everyone and different things work for different people,” Kardashian revealed. “But you just have to do what feels right and try to just be as respectful and cautious as possible.”

She continues to co-parent with West, whom she filed for divorce from in February 2021, and was declared legally single in March 2022. She spoke to Hoda and Savannah about her decision to be single for a while before starting a new relationship.

“I waited a while. I waited like a good 10 months before I was ready to open myself up,” she said, while noting that she realized she was looking for “new energy and something different.”

Davidson is definitely that!

Who knows what the future will hold for the couple, but right now things seem to be going very well. They recently took a tropical vacation without the kids, which Kardashian got real about. ​​“I would say the best way to describe it is really relaxing,” she said. “Like, to be away from four kids even for just a few days is heaven. I love my kids, but you know, any mom knows what I mean.”
