Chris Evans has played a lot of heroes on screen, but these days his focus is much closer to home. The Captain America star, 44, and his wife, Portuguese actress Alba Baptista, 28, have welcomed their first child together, PEOPLE confirms. The baby was born on October 24 in Massachusetts.
Evans and Baptista married in September 2023 in Cape Cod surrounded by family and friends. Since being linked in 2022, the couple has kept their relationship mostly out of public view. That same sense of privacy now shapes how they’re beginning life as parents.

A long-awaited chapter for the Marvel alum
For years, Evans has spoken about his hope to one day build a family. In a 2022 PEOPLE interview, he said that his priorities had changed: “That’s absolutely something I want: wife, kids, building a family.”
In that same interview, Evans reflected on what defines a meaningful life. He noted that many of the artists he admires aren’t remembered most for their work, but for “the relationships, the families they created, the love they found, the love they shared.”
At the 2024 premiere of Red One, when asked if he hoped to be a “superhero dad,” he told Access Hollywood.“Yeah, I hope so. The title of dad is an exciting one.”
Parenthood, on their own terms
Neither Evans nor Baptista has commented publicly on their baby’s arrival. It’s a familiar impulse for many new parents: to keep those early days close while everything still feels new.
Their decision may also reflect a broader shift among high-profile parents who are choosing to protect their children’s privacy from the start. It’s a reminder that even in the public eye, the most meaningful milestones can unfold quietly.
For Evans, who once said the best art is the love and relationships we build, this new chapter seems to bring that belief to life—just not the kind that rolls after a credits scene.
