Fitting in fitness: 3 strategies to ready your body for pregnancy

We caught up with health coach extraordinaire and mama Kimberly Hoye Health and Happiness Connection and asked her to share her tips for finding time to stay healthy. She’s pretty much a genius, and we couldn’t agree more with what she said.

Now is the perfect time

Believe it or not, right now is probably the time in your life–for at least the next several years–when you have the most available, flexible schedule.

Now is actually the perfect time to set a precedence for yourself that taking time to care for yourself and fit in fitness is a non-negotiable for you.

And it’s so good for mom and baby

You probably know that being at a healthy weight before conception and having a regular workout routine can set the stage for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Here are my top 3 tips to fit in fitness—

1. Only do exercise you enjoy

MAKE IT FUN

If you’ve primarily been exercising in ways that you dread, then you’re always going to find excuses not to do it. On the other hand, if you view exercise as something that is fun and exciting, then you’ll be itching to make excuses in order to fit it in during your day.

GET CREATIVE

If you’re skeptical that you’ll ever be able to view exercise as fun, then you just haven’t found the perfect form of exercise for you just yet.

TRY SOMETHING NEW

Try out one of the new or non-traditional ways to fit in some fitness now, and keep trying them out until you find one that you love!

YOU MIGHT TRY:

IF ALL ELSE FAILS

Get outside and take a walk to explore a nearby city or town.

2. Leverage your new family goals for extra motivation

BECAUSE YOU’LL BE CARRYING BABY

What better reason for wanting to get and keep your body strong and in its best shape than hoping to be able to conceive and carry a baby for 9 months?

AND CHASING AFTER A LITTLE ONE

Besides, you probably also want to be a healthy and active participant in your child’s life once they arrive!

3. Take advantage of being childfree

EMBRACE YOUR FREEDOM

Once you’re a mom, things become a little more difficult logistically, so take your current carefree lifestyle by the reigns and do all of the fun and crazy fitness things that you’ve always wanted to try!

GO ON A RETREAT

Love the idea of a yoga retreat, or maybe a weekend long leaf-peeping hike in the woods? Try these out now, while you still have one less person to answer to!
