It was never in my plans to set up a full playground in our backyard. I was planning to add raised beds for me to grow vegetables as my new hobby after years of living in an apartment with no access to anything green. But here we are after seven months of a pandemic and I guess I have to give up my hobby and my space outdoors to my children because they definitely need it more than I do right now.
You see, my toddler was used to going to the playground every single day . He had playground buddies, would know how to play in all the play sets and was starting to venture into the big kid side of the park. Then in March everything shut down and he hasn't been on a swing since.
We drive past one regularly and he always exclaims "PLAYGROUND!" with excitement, only to break my heart a little more about how this whole year has been a lot . We are not taking risks though. We cannot get sick. If one of us goes down with COVID-19 we all go down, we have no childcare and have 7-month-old twins. We are just not doing it.
Instead, I decided to bring the playground to my house. They all need outdoor play, even as the days get colder. I want to encourage them to play outside all year round, and what better way to do that than with their own swing set.
Here's what I'm getting:
If I'm going to do this, I'm going to go big. Little Tikes is a company we love and have bought so many of their stuff before and have had zero disappointments. This play set requires assembly (about 13 hours of work according to their website) so plan ahead and don't start building when the sun is about to set.
This caterpillar tunnel is fun and easy to put together. You can expand it with other kits as your kids grow. Plus it's on sale right now thanks to Prime Day, meaning you'd save $110 if you buy today!
This sandbox was sold out all summer long (trust me, I was refreshing my tab constantly waiting for new ones to come) so now that it's back in stock, I'm not taking any chances.
The set includes abstract manta shovel, turtle sifter, and whale scoop that are perfect for little hands along with an easy-to-transport bucket.
Designed for pre-biking toddlers, this bike will build their skills and confidence before they are ready to add pedals.
This Amazon exclusive trike is both cute and fun and currently on sale on Prime Day, so get it before it sells out.
Its plastic wheel and side supports mean the wheelbarrow is strong and stable enough to carry small loads. The wooden handles are ergonomic, even for the littlest hands
We independently select and share the products we love—and may receive a commission if you choose to buy. You've got this.
