Unless you’ve been under a rock for the past few days, you know that Kamala Harris has made history by being the first female , black, Indian American elected VP in the United States. But politics aside ( you can read our coverage here ), I’m here to talk about fashion, because Kamala’s outfit for her acceptance speech was basically 🔥. It also had a very powerful message. Wearing an all-white pantsuit and a pussy-bow satin shirt, Harris paid homage to the women who came before her for this moment to happen—a suit very similar to the one suffragettes wore while fighting for the right for women to vote. Harris is, of course, not the first to wear a pussy-bow shirt. Margaret Thatcher wore them styled as the ties her male colleagues wore, most recently so did Melania Trump right after her husband’s comment in “Access Hollywood” of grabbing women from a certain body part were made public.
