A new animated series, “We the People“, begins streaming on Netflix on July 4th, and I’m so excited to share the details with you. Former president and first lady Barack and Michelle Obama serve as executive producers of the educational series, which Netflix describes as “the basics of rights and citizenship with upbeat songs”. It’s so important for everyone to have an understanding of their rights and what it means to be an American citizen, so I’m thrilled that kids will have a new opportunity to learn in such a fun way.

With 10 episodes, each a three-minute animated video, the goal is to address a different U.S. civics lesson in each video through original music, education, and of course—fun! Anyone else getting serious Schoolhouse Rock vibes here?

The series features an all-star cast, including singers like H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Brandi Carlile, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Lambert, Bebe Rexha and Andra Day. Inaugural National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman is involved, too!

And because “I’m Just a Bill” taught me as much (or more?) about government than my high school civics class, I can’t wait to check out this modern remix on education through catchy music and informative rhymes.
